Línea de trabajo

Start by reviewing related issues #357 and #180 to understand the planned pore filler and analysis work. Compare the listed builders and force fields against the stated GROMACS, material coverage, licensing, and platform criteria, then check relevant literature for parameter credibility. Done means selecting a supported approach and defining the model and analysis needed for the proposed polymer separators.

Descripción

Battery separators are amorphous porous polymers, so they cannot be made from a unit cell. The two classes of interest are carboxylated celluloses and nylons. The aim is to build such models with an external tool and set up, run and analyse them in ECCE (GROMACS).

To be evaluated (nothing is installed or decided):

  • Builders for amorphous polymers: polyply (writes GROMACS topologies and coordinates directly), EMC, Polymatic, PySIMM, RadonPy. Criteria: GROMACS output, force-field coverage for carbohydrates (carboxylated cellulose) and polyamides (nylons), licence, platform support.
  • Force fields: for example GLYCAM/CHARMM36 carbohydrate parameters for cellulose derivatives, GAFF/OPLS-AA for polyamides. Which ones are credible for these materials still needs checking against the literature.
  • Model: a polymer slab or block with a pore (slit or cylinder) filled with electrolyte. The general region filler planned with #357 would fill the pore.
  • Scale: commercial separator pores are tens of nanometres, while an atomistic box is about 10 nm. MD addresses local behaviour (wetting, ion and solvent structure and diffusion at the polymer surface and in nanopores); membrane-scale porosity and tortuosity normally come from imaging or pore-network models.
  • Analysis: diffusion, conductivity and transference number (#180); porosity and pore-size distribution of the model (new).

Related: #180, #183, #341, #357.
