Línea de trabajo

Start by reading scripts/parsers/gromacs.launchpp and tracing how launch stages inputs, resolves the registered GROMACS binary and module prologue, and opens the existing warning dialog. The issue also calls for client-side checks and a shared remote-run path for Prepare tasks, so map those entry points before estimating the change. Done when the stated remote and local checks run before submission and the warning dialog appears for a deliberate grompp error.

Descripción

The GROMACS launch check (scripts/parsers/gromacs.launchpp) runs gmx grompp on the launching computer, and only when gmx is installed there. Most clients (Windows, macOS, most Linux desktops) have no GROMACS, so the check is skipped and an input error is found only in the job's output file, after the queue wait on a cluster.

Change

  1. Run the check on the machine that runs the job. Launch has already staged the inputs in the run directory there; run gmx grompp in it over the same ssh connection, with the registered GROMACS binary and the machine's module prologue, before the job is submitted. On a queued machine this runs on the login node (a short serial tool). The result goes to the existing launch-warning dialog (Cancel / Launch anyway); nothing blocks. Fall back to the client's gmx only when the machine is unreachable.
  2. Client-side checks that need no GROMACS, for the common errors: topology and structure disagree (atom count, names, order); non-zero net charge with PME; cut-off longer than half the shortest box vector (partly exists for the cell).

The same remote-run mechanism lets a Prepare task run its gmx tools on the login node instead of as a queued job.

Test: a client without gmx (NerdEgg, Monterey) launching to a Linux machine with GROMACS (radium), with a deliberate grompp error (e.g. tcoupl = nose-hoover, tau-t = 0.01): the dialog appears before submission.
