The issue lists three bugs in the legacy TorchBackend: float32 comb results, hypergeometric returning NotImplementedError, and apply_along_axis for axes other than -1. Start by reading the TorchBackend implementation and inspect open PR #165, which is already linked to this issue. The issue says these bugs go away with Phase 3 of #132; confirm that work's status before deciding what remains.

Found while working on #143. These go away with Phase 3 of #132, but comb affects the discrete log scores on torch today.

  • comb uses floor division on float32 factorials, so comb(20, 7) gives 77519 instead of 77520 and logs_binomial with float32 tensors is slightly off.
  • hypergeometric returns NotImplementedError instead of raising it.
  • apply_along_axis is wrong for axis != -1 (only -1 is used today).
