Research direction

The report concerns the NMXAccel.kext probe and the NMXGPU claim step: the log shows NMXAccel probing GFX0 for device 1002:7590 and then reporting that NMXGPU has not claimed it. Start with the device-matching and handoff code that the log lines point to, and confirm whether the kext's supported-device list covers AMD IDs. The issue gives no fix target or expected behaviour, so a newcomer would first need to reproduce it on matching hardware.

Where does it go wrong?

On the desktop (flicker, lag, displays, sleep)

What happens

I am testing the experimental AMD GPU driver support in 1401 Mac 2.1.0 on macOS Sequoia 15.8.1.

My GPU is an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB, PCI ID 1002:7590, subsystem ID 1DA2:493A.

After installing the experimental driver and rebooting, NMXGPU.kext and NMXAccel.kext are both loaded successfully. However, the GPU is still not accelerated. The macOS desktop is usable, but graphical operations are extremely slow, which indicates that the system is still relying on software rendering.

I checked the driver state after boot and found that NMXGPU does not successfully attach to the GPU. The NMXGPU service remains unmatched, while the GPU continues to use the existing IONDRVFramebuffer / Display_boot path instead of being taken over by NMXGPU.

In other words, the kext appears to load correctly, but the actual GPU handoff does not take place. The RX 9060 XT is detected by the system, but NMXGPU does not appear to successfully claim it, and hardware acceleration therefore never becomes active.

I have attached the relevant boot logs and the NMXGPU diagnostic information. Hopefully these can help determine why the driver loads but fails to attach to this GPU.
