Research direction

Start by reviewing the SurfaceMesh API and the existing mesh-creation path in polyscope. The issue names no files or tests, so first determine whether connectivity updates are supported and where mesh data is stored. Done would mean enabling repeated face additions and deletions without recreating the SurfaceMesh, with behavior suitable for progressive meshes.

Description

I was wondering if and how I could update the mesh connectivity in polyscope instead of having to create a new surface mesh. I'm trying to implement progressive meshes and there is a lot of adding faces and deleting faces, so creating a new surface mesh for each update is (highly) inefficient.
