Research direction

Start with the pack format in re1/en/voice.json of the lockpick-subtitles repository and the generator tools/voice/export_pack.py, so you know the line and timing fields. The app side needs a settings toggle, a pinned download with SHA-256 checks, and an overlay. The voice-file detection step needs reverse-engineering research into the sound-channel arrays or event scripts, so start there before writing code. Done means the pack downloads, verifies, reports mismatched voice files, and shows the current line with its timings.

Description

area:app area:overlay

Accessibility: show subtitles for the game's voiced scenes (the original has none).

Data: the separate lockpick-subtitles pack (re1/en/voice.json: 549 lines with timed segments and each voice file's SHA-256). It is published separately because the dialogue belongs to Capcom; it is never committed to this repository. Built by tools/voice/export_pack.py.

App:

  • Settings: Subtitles — download (optional), off by default; download a pinned version, verify it, store it locally
  • Check the pack against the player's voice files (SHA-256) and report mismatches
  • Find which voice file is playing (capture research: sound-channel arrays in the system block, or the cutscene/event scripts)
  • Show the current line in the overlay with its timings

Pack quality: machine transcription (Whisper large-v3 x2 + Canary-Qwen 2.5B, lines where two passes agree), not yet checked by ear; corrections go to the pack repository.
