Research direction

Open gresources/nemo-desktop-overlay.glade and inspect the listed button, page0, and page1 strings at the referenced lines. Check whether each is visible to users or replaced at runtime, then remove its translatable attribute or give it a meaningful label as appropriate. Done when the translation template no longer includes internal placeholders and any user-facing labels remain translatable.

Description

Hello,

While reviewing the Galician translation of Nemo on Launchpad, I noticed three placeholder strings that are marked as translatable in gresources/nemo-desktop-overlay.glade:

  • button — lines 680 and 870
  • page0 — line 845
  • page1 — line 887

These appear to be placeholder labels or page titles generated by the Glade interface designer, rather than meaningful strings intended for users.

They are currently included in Nemo's translation template, requiring translators to translate strings such as button, page0, and page1 just to reach 100% translation coverage.

Suggested improvement

Could you please check whether these strings actually need to be translatable?

If they are internal placeholders or are replaced at runtime, their translatable="yes" attributes could be removed.

If any of them are displayed to users, it might be better to replace them with meaningful English labels that translators can translate appropriately.

This small cleanup would benefit all translation teams and avoid unnecessary or potentially misleading translations.

Thank you for your work on Nemo!
