Direzione di ricerca

Start by inspecting dataset/catalog.parquet, including the Cinnamon Clownfish row identified by UUID, and compare the rank columns against scientific_name. Trace the Python data-generation or alignment entry point that produces the catalog. Done means missing taxonomy ranks remain null without shifting downstream values, including for the reported affected rows.

Descrizione

I was spot checking some fish labels and noticed that some rows in dataset/catalog.parquet have lower ranks shifted one column left, so species ends up null. E.g. the Cinnamon Clownfish (uuid 0eb15b94-0fc6-42cb-a3b2-b310018b7ba4) has

  • kingdom: Animalia
  • phylum: Chordata
  • class: Perciformes (WRONG, this is an order; should be Actinopterygii)
  • order: Pomacentridae (this is a family)
  • family: Amphiprion (this is a genus)
  • genus: melanopus (this is a species)
  • species: null
  • scientific_name: Amphiprion melanopus

As an aside, I believe clownfish have more recently been placed in the order Blenniiformes but I think Perciformes at least historically correct.

I believe at least 32,943 labels for 2,643,887 rows match this pattern for the species I filtered down to for my use, but there may be more.

I think the fix for this should be that a missing rank should remain null instead of shifting downstream ranks.
