Research direction

Open workshop/06-install-gh-aw.md and compare the listed files with the gh aw init --help behavior described in the issue. Update the file list to remove the nonexistent designer skill and revise the example version string. Done when both inaccuracies are corrected in the workshop text.

workshop/06-install-gh-aw.md

Problem 1 — nonexistent file claimed from gh aw init

The file states:

This creates several files needed for agentic workflow authoring:
.github/skills/agentic-workflows/SKILL.md,
.github/skills/agentic-workflow-designer/SKILL.md,
.github/agents/agentic-workflows.md, .github/mcp.json,
.github/workflows/copilot-setup-steps.yml, and .vscode/settings.json.

The authoritative gh aw init --help output (gh-aw v0.89.21) describes the command as creating only:

  • .github/skills/agentic-workflows/SKILL.md (the dispatcher skill)
  • .vscode/settings.json
  • With --engine copilot: .github/agents/agentic-workflows.md
  • With --engine copilot (and not --no-mcp): .github/workflows/copilot-setup-steps.yml and .github/mcp.json

There is no mention of an agentic-workflow-designer skill being created by gh aw init anywhere in the CLI help. This repository's own .github/skills/ directory (populated by a prior gh aw init run) also contains no agentic-workflow-designer folder.

Current correct behaviour

Per gh aw init --help:

This command:
- Configures .gitattributes to mark .lock.yml files as generated
- Creates the dispatcher skill at .github/skills/agentic-workflows/SKILL.md
- Removes old prompt files from .github/prompts/ if they exist
- Configures VSCode settings (.vscode/settings.json)
...
With --engine copilot:
- Creates the custom agent at .github/agents/agentic-workflows.md

With --engine copilot (without --no-mcp):
- Creates .github/workflows/copilot-setup-steps.yml with gh-aw installation steps
- Creates .github/mcp.json with gh-aw MCP server configuration

Suggested fix

Remove the .github/skills/agentic-workflow-designer/SKILL.md entry from the bullet list of files created by gh aw init, keeping only the files actually documented by the CLI.

Problem 2 — stale example version string

The file says:

You should see output like gh-aw version 0.81.6.

The current gh-aw release is v0.89.21. The illustrative example version is far out of date and could confuse learners into thinking they are behind when they are actually current.

Suggested fix

Update the example output to a current-style version string, e.g. gh-aw version 0.89.21 (or a generic placeholder if the intent is just to show the output format).
