Research direction

Start with the on: block of the pr-reviewer example in workshop/14b-pr-reviewer-workflow.md and the dispatch-workflow step in workshop/28-orchestrate-workflows.md. Reproduce the failure by compiling the orchestrator with gh aw compile, which should report that pr-reviewer lacks workflow_dispatch. Pick one of the three fixes in the issue, then recompile; done means the checkpoint's success claim is true and the wording matches the compiled behaviour.

Problem

The step instructs learners to build a repo-orchestrator workflow that dispatches the pr-reviewer workflow (built in workshop/14b-pr-reviewer-workflow.md) via the dispatch-workflow safe-output:

safe-outputs:\n dispatch-workflow:\n workflows:\n - daily-status\n - pr-reviewer\n max: 1

The pr-reviewer workflow from step 14b only declares pull_request and slash_command triggers — it has no workflow_dispatch trigger.

Current correct behaviour (verified by reproduction)

I reproduced this locally with gh aw compile (v0.89.21, matching the latest gh-aw release). Compiling an orchestrator that lists a dispatch target without workflow_dispatch in its on: section fails with:

error: dispatch-workflow validation failed: dispatch-workflow: workflow 'pr-reviewer' does not support workflow_dispatch trigger (must include 'workflow_dispatch' in the 'on' section)

This means following the workshop step exactly as written — using the existing pr-reviewer workflow from step 14b as a dispatch target — produces a compile error, not the success state the checkpoint describes ("gh aw compile repo-orchestrator succeeds").

Suggested fix

Either:

  1. Add a note/step in 28-orchestrate-workflows.md instructing learners to add workflow_dispatch: to pr-reviewer's on: section (alongside its existing triggers) before using it as a dispatch target, or
  2. Update workshop/14b-pr-reviewer-workflow.md to include workflow_dispatch: in the on: block from the start so it is dispatch-ready for step 28, or
  3. Use a different pre-built workshop workflow as the dispatch target example that already supports workflow_dispatch.

Reference: gh aw compile-time validation for dispatch-workflow (confirmed via direct reproduction against the installed v0.89.21 CLI).
