Description

Persian input has two issues with the current long-press character popups.

  1. Period key: diacritics and default character

The long-press popup on the period key contains Arabic diacritics and other marks, but its default character and visual presentation could be improved for Persian input.

Expected behavior:

  • Use the tatweel character "ـ" (U+0640, ARABIC TATWEEL) as the default character.
  • Display diacritics, including fatha ("َ"), kasra ("ِ"), and tanwin marks, using the dotted-circle placeholder "◌" (U+25CC), following the existing Arabic popup's visual style.
  • Preserve the correct positioning of each mark so users can easily distinguish diacritics displayed above or below the placeholder.
  1. Alef key: incorrect default and unnecessary character

The Alef key's popup currently prioritizes "ٱ" (U+0671, ARABIC LETTER ALEF WASLA) instead of "آ" (U+0622, ARABIC LETTER ALEF WITH MADDA ABOVE). Additionally, the popup includes an unnecessary "&" character that should not be present in Persian input.

Expected behavior:

  • Use "آ" as the default Alef character for Persian input.
  • Remove the unrelated "&" character from the Alef popup.
  • Keep appropriate Arabic-specific characters available when Arabic is the active input language.

Suggested implementation

Make the default characters and long-press popup contents language-aware, ensuring that Persian users get appropriate characters and diacritics without changing the intended Arabic input experience.
