Research direction

Start with rubinModel.js and tools/models/obj2glb.py, then inspect the linked NOIRLab model files and determine whether they can be loaded and decimated with the available tools. The target is a page-sized model containing the dome with its real slit and shutter, enclosure, and site, with the dome's moving parts grouped; replace the existing primitives in rubinModel.js.

Description

track:spacecraft

Part of #321. NOIRLab's Rubin complete scene (the enclosure, dome and site) is a 2 GB OBJ and a 472 MB Cinema 4D file: too big for a page, and it doesn't load in bldrs either, which is the place to make it tractable first. Decimate it to what a page can carry (the dome with its real slit and shutter, the enclosure, the site), convert with tools/models/obj2glb.py grouping the dome's moving parts, and replace the primitives in rubinModel.js.
