Research direction
The payload names no source files, so start by finding where manual workout entries and the saved body weight are stored in the Flutter app. The request is for an offline estimate using the ACSM formulas, shown with active and total calories labeled separately and a manual override. Confirm the screen placement and whether segments are in scope with the maintainer before writing code. Done means the formula is covered by unit tests for walking and running, with metric and imperial inputs converted correctly.

Description
So I was wondering...Could you add an option to automatically estimate calories for manually logged walking and running workouts?
I’d like to enter my workout details and have GymMane calculate estimated calories without needing to import data from a smartwatch. Ideally, this would support both outdoor runs and treadmill workouts, including incline walking.
Suggested inputs
Activity type: walking or running
Distance
Duration
Body weight, defaulting to the user’s saved weight if available
Incline percentage, defaulting to 0%
Suggested calculation
The ACSM metabolic equations could provide a standardized basis for the estimate:
speed = distance_meters / duration_minutes
grade = incline_percent / 100
Walking:
VO2 = (0.1 × speed) + (1.8 × speed × grade) + 3.5
Running:
VO2 = (0.2 × speed) + (0.9 × speed × grade) + 3.5
Total calories = VO2 × weight_kg × duration_minutes / 200
Active calories = (VO2 − 3.5) × weight_kg × duration_minutes / 200
Desired behavior
- Clearly label the result as estimated calories.
- Distinguish active calories from total calories so users know which value is being logged.
- Allow users to override the estimate with a value from their watch or another source.
- Support metric and imperial inputs, converting units internally.
- If workout segments are supported, calculate each segment separately so changes in speed or incline are reflected in the total.
Why this would help
This would make manual cardio logging more useful and consistent, especially for users who use GymMane as a workout journal rather than a live workout tracker. It would also give users without a smartwatch a convenient way to estimate calories from the workout details they already know.
