Research direction

The fix is already merged in linked pull request 5040, so check whether it resolves the problem before starting. The issue covers the ndserver game module's config (where steamuser and steampass would be required) and its install and update steps, which should download depot 17710/17711 and merge it into serverfiles. Verify by installing a Nuclear Dawn server with an account that owns the game and confirming gameinfo.txt is present.

Description

engine: source game: Nuclear Dawn info: steamcmd type: bug
Description

SteamCMD reports Success! App '111710' fully installed, but serverfiles/nucleardawn/ contains only bin, cfg and logs. The server fails with Unable to find gameinfo.txt and the monitor restarts it continuously.

Cause

App 111710 lists its content depot 17711 (about 4.6 GB) as a shared install from the Nuclear Dawn game app (17710). SteamCMD records it under SharedDepots and never downloads it, so only the Linux server binaries (111711) and Steam redistributables (1006) are installed. Nuclear Dawn is a paid game, so anonymous logins have no licence for depot 17711.

Logging in with an account that owns the game does not help either:

  • app_update 111710 logs missing required app 17710 and still reports success.
  • app_update 17710 fails with Missing configuration or state is 0x42, because SteamCMD treats it as shared only.
Steps to reproduce
  1. steamcmd +force_install_dir /tmp/nd +login anonymous +app_update 111710 validate +quit
  2. ls /tmp/nd/nucleardawn shows only bin.
Workaround (tested)

With an account that owns Nuclear Dawn, download_depot 17710 17711 downloads the content. Copying it into serverfiles without overwriting existing files gives a working server: the map loads, VAC is on and the monitor passes.

Proposed fix
  • Require steamuser/steampass for ndserver, with a config comment that the account must own Nuclear Dawn.
  • Add a step after install and update that downloads depot 17710/17711 and merges it into serverfiles.

Reproduced on a test server running the current develop branch.
