Research direction

Start with lgsm/data/ubuntu-26.04.csv, which duplicates the 24.04 list, and the libstdc++5:i386 entries for cod, cod2, coduo, mohaa and bfv. Then look at check_deps to see how a missing package is handled. Done means these five servers either install via a noble fallback or show a clear unsupported message on 26.04. The maintainers have not chosen between the two options yet, so confirm the approach in the thread before writing code.

Description

distro: Ubuntu engine: idtech3 engine: iw2.0 engine: refractor game: Battlefield: Vietnam game: Call of Duty game: Call of Duty 2 game: Call of Duty: United Offensive game: Medal of Honor: Allied Assault info: dependency info: docker type: bug

Summary

lgsm/data/ubuntu-26.04.csv is an unchanged copy of ubuntu-24.04.csv. Five servers list libstdc++5:i386, but Ubuntu removed that package in 26.04 (Resolute Raccoon):

  • bfv (Battlefield: Vietnam)
  • cod (Call of Duty)
  • cod2 (Call of Duty 2)
  • coduo (Call of Duty: United Offensive)
  • mohaa (Medal of Honor: Allied Assault)

On 26.04, installing their dependencies fails with E: Unable to locate package libstdc++5:i386. This affects normal installs as well as Docker.

Evidence

  • Launchpad lists libstdc++5 (1:3.3.6-30ubuntu2) as published for noble/i386, with nothing published for resolute.
  • I simulated installing every game's 26.04 dependency list on Ubuntu 26.04. All games install except these five; on 24.04 none fail.

Possible fix

Noble's package installs cleanly on 26.04 (glibc 2.43); I tested this:

curl -fsSLO http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/g/gcc-3.3/libstdc++5_3.3.6-30ubuntu2_i386.deb
sudo apt-get install -y ./libstdc++5_3.3.6-30ubuntu2_i386.deb

Options:

  1. check_deps falls back to the noble .deb when libstdc++5:i386 has no install candidate.
  2. Mark these servers as unsupported on 26.04, so users get a clear message instead of an apt error.

Until then, these servers' Docker images stay on ubuntu-24.04 (see the Docker migration tracking issue).
