Start by reading the allocator API and tracing how it handles an allocation when no suitable memory remains. Define the callback contract for obtaining additional pages, including how physical frames or kernel-provided memory are represented. Done means the allocator can request more pages through that contract and the behavior is covered by appropriate tests.

It would be nice if the allocator could accept a function which gets called when there is not enough memory to allocate something, and that function can then get pages of memory (such as mapping some phys frames or requesting memory from the kernel).
