Research direction

Start with std/string/ascii.wave and review the existing ASCII predicates and case-conversion helpers to follow their naming style. Define the intended ASCII ranges from the scope, then test every byte from 0 through 255, including punctuation boundaries, DEL, and non-ASCII bytes. Done means the new predicates are covered and existing behavior remains unchanged.

Description

enhancement good first issue needs testing

Motivation

ASCII helpers provide digit/letter/space checks and case conversion, but callers still repeat ASCII-range, hexadecimal-digit, control and printable-byte classification.

Starting points: std/string/ascii.wave.

Scope

Add a small coherent group of ASCII-only byte predicates, using existing naming style. Keep locale and Unicode classification outside this change.

Difficulty: easy.

Completion criteria

  • Test every byte from 0 through 255 against explicit ASCII ranges.
  • Cover boundary punctuation, DEL and non-ASCII bytes.
  • Preserve all existing predicates and case-conversion behavior.
