Trace how chat sessions store provider data and how the UI displays provider status. Done means NEAR AI handles chat and bounded tool calls when explicitly selected, attestation status is shown, and failures never trigger a silent provider fallback.

Summary

Add NEAR AI Cloud (private inference in a trusted execution environment, OpenAI-compatible API) as a selectable inference provider for agent chat, and surface its attestation in the UI.

Motivation

Portfolio and drug-discovery prompts can be sensitive. Verifiable private inference is a meaningful differentiator and fits the existing provider-switch design.

Current state in this repo

  • On main, services/ai_agent_service.py calls AWS Bedrock directly.
  • feat/toju-agent-storage adds services/groq_agent.py with an explicit provider switch (AGENT_LLM_PROVIDER) and a no-silent-paid-fallback rule.

Proposal

  • Add a near provider reusing the OpenAI-compatible tool-calling loop; configure via env.
  • Retrieve and verify the attestation per the NEAR AI documentation and store a summary with the chat session; show a 'private inference verified' indicator.
  • Keep the explicit-selection rule: no automatic provider switching.

Acceptance criteria

  • Selecting the provider routes chat and tool calls to NEAR AI with bounded tool rounds.
  • Failures are reported honestly and never fall back to another provider silently.
  • Attestation status is visible in the UI.

Out of scope

  • Hosting models ourselves.

Dependencies

  • Toju branch merge (provider switch).
