Research direction

Start from the proposed gitgalaxy assess <estate-dir> entry point and the epic it links to, since the payload names no source files. Confirm the scanner runs with no network access and no optional services, and check what its output currently contains. Done means a clean-machine run produces counts and redacted names with no source text, backed by a no-source-text test and a redaction test.

Description

enhancement legacy-modernization priority: medium

What. Package the scanner as one command, e.g. gitgalaxy assess <estate-dir> [--jcl ...] [--options ...], that runs locally, offline, read-only at a customer site:

  • No network calls.
  • The output contains only counts, feature names, program names (optionally hashed or redacted) and statuses, never source text.
  • A redaction mode for program and dataset names.
  • Minimal dependencies (no Docker / Db2 / JDK needed for the assessment; the translate-only dry run must work without them).
  • Documented install and run; versioned.

Acceptance.

  • Runs on a clean machine from the published package.
  • A test asserts no source text appears in the output.
  • A redaction test.
  • Works on every burned estate.
  • Docs for a customer to run it.

Part of the estate readiness scanner epic (linked from the epic). Owner-approved direction, 2026-10-08.
