Research direction

Start by finding Duo’s settings for the “Battery” and “Networks” toggles and the code that draws the network indicator; the issue does not name files or tests. Make Networks work when Battery is off, and verify Duo shows the network indicator without the battery ring. The optional signal strength toggle can be considered separately.

Description

Problem Statement

I want Duo to show only whether I'm on Wi-Fi or mobile data. But the "Networks" toggle is disabled unless "Battery" is also on, so I can't hide the battery ring and keep the network indicator.

Proposed Solution

Let "Networks" work independently of "Battery." With Battery off, Duo would show only the network indicator, making it clear whether I'm on Wi-Fi or mobile data.

(Optional) Add a "Show signal strength" toggle in Network options, so users can choose between:

  • Connection type only: a simple Wi-Fi vs. mobile data indicator.
  • Connection type + signal strength: how it works today.
