Research direction

Find the Traditional Chinese (zh-TW) translation for the context-window usage tooltip by searching the localization files for 自字元 or the displayed usage text. Check nearby locale strings for the established token terminology, then update the label to an unambiguous term such as 詞元. Done when the tooltip clearly identifies the count as tokens and the Traditional Chinese wording is consistent.

Description

app bug context windows-os
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Installed Microsoft Store package: OpenAI.Codex 26.1016.6573.0, verified locally on 2026-10-21. The in-app About version was not recorded.

What subscription do you have?

Not specified; the observation concerns the Traditional Chinese UI wording.

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26300.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

With the Codex desktop UI in Traditional Chinese (zh-TW), the context-window usage tooltip displays the token unit as 自字元.

The screenshot shows:

上下文視窗:
已使用 31%(剩餘 69%)
已使用 81k / 258k 個自字元

自字元 is unclear to a Traditional Chinese reader: the prefix 自 is unexplained, and 字元 normally means characters. It is therefore unclear from the wording whether this counter measures tokens or characters.

Please review this localized string and use an unambiguous label for tokens.

What steps can reproduce the bug?
  1. Use the Windows desktop app with the interface in Traditional Chinese (zh-TW).
  2. Open a conversation.
  3. Hover over the context-window usage indicator near the model selector in the message composer.
  4. Read the unit in the tooltip: 已使用 81k / 258k 個自字元 in the attached observation.

Observed context usage: 81k / 258k, shown as 31% used and 69% remaining. The screenshot was captured on 2026-10-21 (Asia/Taipei).

What is the expected behavior?

The tooltip should clearly identify the unit as tokens, for example:

  • 已使用 81k / 258k 個詞元
  • 已使用 81k / 258k tokens

Please use consistent terminology across the Traditional Chinese UI. Using 字元 alone would also be misleading because token counts and character counts are different units.

Additional information

Locale: Traditional Chinese (zh-TW).
