The bundled ZXing DLLs in the sample projects, especially the Unity sample, are older than the published release, so creating a BarcodeReader fails with a luminance-related error. Start by finding which sample projects reference ZXing assemblies and comparing those versions with the current NuGet release. Done means the samples build and run against the current library, and the BarcodeReader construction succeeds in the Unity sample.

Summary
Tried using the latest zXing .NET and Unity releases only to find I could not create a new instance of the BarcodeReader class, complaining about a Luminesence profile.
Checked the sames and copied the code as is and it still did not work.
Turns out the samples zXing dependencies have not been updated inline with the releases, for example, the Unity sample is using a version 8 years old
