Description
User story
As a Defguard Desktop user,
I want to be told when a new version is available and install it with one click,
so that I always have the latest features and security fixes without updating manually.
Flow
- The app checks for updates when it starts and then periodically (e.g. every hour).
- If a new version is found, it downloads silently in the background. The user isn't prompted yet.
- When the download is ready, a non-blocking toast appears: "Update available: Defguard 2.2 is ready to install." It has two buttons, Update and Dismiss, plus a "Release notes" link.
- Update restarts the app and applies the update. After the restart, the What's New screen appears.
- Dismiss hides the toast. The update is installed automatically the next time the app starts.
Acceptance Criteria
- The toast stays visible until the user acts on it and never blocks the UI.
- If a VPN connection is active, clicking Update first asks the user to confirm that it will be disconnected.
- If the update fails, the error is logged, the current version keeps working, and the next check tries again.
