Problem description
In enterprise Windows environments, users typically do not have local administrator privileges, following the principle of least privilege.
When Defguard Desktop Client detects a new version, standard users cannot complete an update that requires administrative elevation without contacting IT support.
This introduces unnecessary administrative overhead and delays the deployment of security updates.
Enterprise endpoint agents already address this by using a trusted privileged service to perform updates without requiring administrative credentials from the logged-in user.
Proposed solution
Implement a built-in, secure Windows update mechanism allowing standard users to update Defguard Desktop Client without UAC prompts.
The existing client could request an update, while a dedicated privileged service running as LocalSystem would perform the installation.
