Start with the Waveshare drivers in src/epdlib/drivers/waveshare/ and docs/waveshare.md; issue #92 and the test epd2in7b screen on the test Pi are the stated starting points. First decide how pixels map to the black and colour layers, how to select red or yellow, and whether colour refresh needs a separate mode. Done when the listed three-colour screens support the chosen behaviour and the refresh mode decision is documented.

Waveshare's three-colour screens (black, white and red or yellow) take two 1-bit images: one for black and one for the second colour. With #92 (PR 3) these screens are partly supported: black and white only. This issue adds the red or yellow colour.

Decided with txoof (2026-10-10): black and white first; colour later, in this issue.

Questions to decide first:

  • How the picture is split into the black layer and the colour layer: the nearest of black, white and the colour, with dot patterns for in-between shades, or only pure red/yellow goes to the colour layer.
  • Red or yellow: the "bc" files serve both a red (B) and a yellow (C) screen, so the screen's colour must be chosen somewhere.
  • Colour refreshes are much slower than black-and-white ones (seen on txoof's 2.7" B): should black-and-white stay available as a faster mode next to colour?

Test screen: txoof's epd2in7b (V1, black/white/red), on the test Pi.
