Direzione di ricerca

Start with src/epdlib/modes.py and the existing grayscale dithering paths; compare how image blocks select photo, pattern, and smooth from the issue’s referenced #94. Implement the color variants using measured panel colors from #97, then update the docs and tests. Verify the output with gray bars, flat color areas, and a photo on the 5.65" F panel.

Descrizione

area:layout enhancement

Follow-up from #94.

Image blocks can choose dither: "photo", "pattern" or "smooth" (#94). On colour (palette) screens, colour blocks (rgb_support: true) use Floyd–Steinberg for every choice for now, so pattern and smooth make no difference there.

To do: colour versions of both, using the measured panel colours (#97):

  • pattern: ordered dithering in colour (add the 8×8 Bayer pattern as an offset, then take the nearest measured colour). Fast with Pillow.
  • smooth: Atkinson in colour (error per red, green and blue). About 3 times slower than the gray version: 10 s or more on a Pi 3 for a whole screen.

Needs an eye test on the 5.65" F (gray bars, flat colour areas, a photo).

Area: layout (src/epdlib/modes.py), docs, tests.
