Problem

When a simulation passes gif_name to GlobalXYVisualizer, it saves a GIF instead of opening a window (anime.save(...) vs plt.show()). About half of the simulations do this, so a learner who runs them sees no window for a long time and the committed demo GIF is overwritten. Planners that render their own search animation behave the same way.

Expected fix

  • Show the animation by default
  • Save a GIF only when explicitly requested, e.g. with a command-line option such as --save-gif, used by maintainers to regenerate demos
  • Describe how to regenerate a demo GIF in HOWTOCONTRIBUTE.md
