Direzione di ricerca

Read src/components/plan/astar/astar_path_planner.py, focusing on the heuristic, search method, and constructor docstring. Explain the implemented heuristic and the effect of weight=5.0 with equations, add a standard reference, and correct the constructor arguments; preserve behavior unless changing the heuristic is needed. Done when a beginner can connect each algorithm step to an equation and the tests pass.

Descrizione

documentation good first issue

Problem

This repository is learning material, so the algorithm code should show the math it implements and where it comes from. In src/components/plan/astar/astar_path_planner.py:

  • The simulation uses weight=5.0, so it is weighted A*, and the heuristic is the Manhattan distance on an 8-connected grid where diagonal moves cost 1. This heuristic is not admissible, so the path is not guaranteed to be the shortest. Explain this (or switch to an admissible heuristic such as the octile/Chebyshev distance), and explain the effect of weight.
  • heuristic and search have no docstrings.
  • The constructor docstring lists arguments that don't exist (visualize) and misses others (map_file, path_filename, gif_name).

Expected fix

  • Add the equations and a short explanation in docstrings/comments next to the code that implements them, keeping it easy to follow for beginners
  • Add a reference to the original paper or a standard textbook
  • Don't change the behavior unless the issue says so

Done when

A beginner can match each step of the code to an equation, and all tests pass.
