Direzione di ricerca

Read src/components/mapping/ndt/ndt_map.py and locate where each grid cell's mean and covariance are computed. Add beginner friendly explanations with the corresponding equations and a reference to Biber & Straßer (2003) or a standard textbook; done means each step matches an equation and tests pass. An open linked pull request (#151) already addresses this issue.

Descrizione

documentation good first issue

Problem

This repository is learning material, so the algorithm code should show the math it implements and where it comes from. In src/components/mapping/ndt/ndt_map.py:

  • The map builds a mean and covariance per grid cell without explaining what NDT is or what it is used for (scan matching).
  • Add the equations for the mean and covariance, and a reference (Biber & Straßer, 2003).

Expected fix

  • Add the equations and a short explanation in docstrings/comments next to the code that implements them, keeping it easy to follow for beginners
  • Add a reference to the original paper or a standard textbook
  • Don't change the behavior unless the issue says so

Done when

A beginner can match each step of the code to an equation, and all tests pass.
