Research direction

Start by reading the parent issue #262 and the history of the V3 token bug and late loop detection in #215 to identify the three failures to trace. Reproduce each on the cleaned code, record time to root cause, and note whether a test can pin it. The work is complete when all three traces are documented and any slow trace is identified for follow-up.

Description

Part of #262. The last step before capability work starts.

Why. The clean-up should make a failure fast to trace to its cause. This step measures that instead of assuming it.

The check. Take three past failures whose cause took long to find (for example the V3 token bug, and the late loop detection in #215). Trace each one again on the cleaned code. Record the time to the root cause, and whether a test can pin it. A trace that is still slow marks the code to fix first.
