Línea de trabajo

Start with the main_class blocks in src/paperpi/web/templates/base.html and in the Home and Full log templates, then the main.wide, .top-inner.wide and footer.wide rules in src/paperpi/web/static/style.css. Load Home and Plugin Library at computer and phone width and compare the menu bar's left edge. Done when the menu bar and left edge stay fixed across Home, Plugin Library, Warnings and a Settings page, with screenshots in the PR.

Problem: the page width changes a lot when switching between Home, Plugin Library and Warnings, so the menu bar and the left edge of the page jump sideways.

Why: pages pick one of two widths. Home (home.html) and the Full log (log.html, PR #281) set {% block main_class %}wide{% endblock %}, which makes the page, the menu bar and the footer 64rem wide (main.wide, .top-inner.wide, footer.wide in src/paperpi/web/static/style.css). The other pages (Plugin Library, Settings, Add, Remove, Log in) are 46rem wide. On a computer screen both are centred, so the left edge moves by about 9rem (around 140 pixels) between pages. The menu bar follows the page width, so it moves too.

Wanted: the menu bar and the left edge stay in the same place on every page. For example:

  • one width for the menu bar on every page (the wide one), and
  • every page starts at the same left edge; a page with narrow content (forms, text) keeps its text lines short with a max-width on the content, not by centring a narrower page.

Also check that the page doesn't shift a little when one page has a scroll bar and the next doesn't (for example with scrollbar-gutter: stable on html).

Where: src/paperpi/web/static/style.css, src/paperpi/web/templates/base.html and the templates that set main_class.

Done when: switching between Home, Plugin Library, Warnings and a Settings page doesn't move the menu bar or the left edge, at computer and phone width; screenshots in the PR.
