Línea de trabajo

Start with src/paperpi/plugin.py and the settings and preview code under src/paperpi/web/; inspect how layout dimensions are chosen after [display] rotation. Compare the met_no portrait layouts and their previews, then decide how layout shape should be represented and shown. Done means the chosen behavior is implemented consistently for layout selection, Preview, and Plugin Library pictures, with relevant documentation updated.

Descripción

area:web needs-decision

Found by txoof in the weather demo (M5 part 3c, 2026-10-10).

What happens

Some plugins have layouts made for tall (portrait) screens, e.g. met_no has portrait_hours and portrait_now. On a landscape screen (the demo uses 800 x 480), choosing one of them on the settings page and pressing Preview draws it at 800 x 480: the portrait layout is shown as a landscape picture. The layout list doesn't say which layouts are meant for which shape of screen, and a layout can't be seen at the shape it was made for.

PaperPi draws every layout at the screen's own size, after [display] rotation (a screen turned 90 or 270 degrees gives a tall area). There is no "portrait" setting of its own.

To decide

  • Should a plugin say which shape each layout is for (wide, tall, any)?
  • On the settings page: hide layouts that don't fit the screen's shape, list them separately, or show a warning next to them?
  • Should Preview and the Plugin Library pictures draw a layout at the shape it is made for (e.g. 480 x 800), or always at the real screen's shape?
  • Is the real need a portrait screen, which today means rotation = 90 or 270 in [display] (the screen settings page comes in M5 part 5)?

Area

core (src/paperpi/plugin.py if layouts get a shape), web (src/paperpi/web/), plugins with tall layouts (met_no, maybe others), docs.
