Rechercherichtung

Beschreibung

bug documentation needs-triage
Page or section
  • docs/ai-gateway/manage-budgets.mdx (whole page)
  • docs/ai-gateway/budgets-and-pricing.mdx, "Set an organization default" (it also refers to the Defaults tab)
What's wrong?

The console layout has changed.

  • The page describes a Defaults tab and an Edit Budgets action for updating multiple users. The organization default is now edited from a Defaults button on the User Budgets tab (stacklok/stacklok-enterprise-platform#5355).
  • Each user row has Set a custom budget and, once one is set, Edit custom budget and Use default. Use default asks for confirmation ("[email protected] will use $10 daily instead of this custom budget").
  • Group budget rows have Edit budget and Delete budget actions.
  • None of these are documented.

The charge order isn't clear from an admin's point of view.
budgets-and-pricing.mdx states the order: the user's budget first, then the first group budget with capacity. Neither page spells out the consequence: a user's personal budget isn't a hard cap if any of their groups has a budget with remaining capacity. On the demo cluster, setting a user's custom daily budget to $0.01 didn't stop their requests. The gateway kept charging the All FTE group budget, and a 402 only came back after the group budget was also exhausted. An admin who sets a small personal budget to restrict one user will be surprised.

Suggested fix
  • Update manage-budgets.mdx to the current layout: the Defaults button, per-user Set a custom budget, Edit custom budget and Use default, and group Edit budget and Delete budget.
  • Add a short "Restrict a single user" note or callout: once a user's own budget is exhausted, any group budget with capacity takes over. To cap one user, check their groups' budgets, or keep group budgets for shared pools only.
  • Fix the Defaults tab reference in budgets-and-pricing.mdx.
