Research direction

Start by following the folder selection and confirmation flow, then compare it with the record-button action on the Recorder screen; the report’s clean-install steps and logcat note about missing permission grants are useful starting points. Done when a confirmed folder no longer triggers the prompt again on recording, or the app explains why it cannot use the folder.

Affected app version

1.7.1 / code 18

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 14 (API 34)

Affected device model

Android emulator, Pixel 6 profile (1080 x 2400)

How did you install the app?

None

Steps to reproduce the bug
  1. Install the app cleanly and start it, tap OK on the folder prompt, select Download in the app's Select a folder screen and tap OK, then land on the Recorder screen.
  2. Control: open the Player tab (it shows No recordings created by this app have been found) and tap the app's Recorder tab to go back - no prompt appears.
  3. Return to the same state and tap the record button (org.fossify.voicerecorder:id/toggle_recording_button).
  4. Watch the screen: the confirmation prompt reappears over the Recorder screen and recording never starts.
Expected behavior

With a folder already confirmed through the app's own picker, tapping the record button should either start recording into that folder or show a clear storage/permission error explaining why the folder is unusable. It should not re-open the first-run folder confirmation prompt, especially when the same confirmed state does not prompt on other navigation paths.

Actual behavior

From a clean install, confirming the folder prompt, selecting Download in the folder picker and pressing OK lands on the Recorder screen. Opening the Player tab and returning to Recorder shows no prompt at all, but tapping the record button in that same state immediately re-opens the prompt "You must confirm the folder where you want to save your recordings. Please press OK to continue." and recording never starts, which isolates the failure to the record action rather than the first-run setup.

Additional information

Package: org.fossify.voicerecorder
Latest checked release: 1.7.1, checked 2026-09-19.

Reproduced twice from a clean install with identical results. No FATAL EXCEPTION, ANR or process death occurs; logcat shows "UriGrantsManagerService: No permission grants found for org.fossify.voicerecorder", so the confirmed folder does not end up with a durable grant and the per-tap folder check rejects it again.
