Research direction

Investigate the folder confirmation flow and the record button handler. Find where the selected folder is stored after the user picks it, and why that value is not available when recording starts. Look for the condition that triggers the first-run confirmation prompt and ensure it checks the persisted folder selection correctly.

Affected app version

1.7.1 / code 18

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 14 (API 34)

Affected device model

Android emulator, Pixel 6 profile (1080 x 2400)

How did you install the app?

None

Steps to reproduce the bug
  1. Install the app cleanly and start it. The first-run prompt You must confirm the folder where you want to save your recordings. Please press OK to continue. appears.
  2. Tap OK, open the app's own Select a folder screen and select Download (the breadcrumb reads Internal > Download).
  3. Tap OK in the folder dialog. The app returns to the Recorder screen with the record button visible.
  4. Tap the record button (org.fossify.voicerecorder:id/toggle_recording_button).
  5. Watch the screen: the same confirmation prompt appears again immediately and recording never starts.
  6. Control: after doing this, confirm the folder and then open the Player tab and return to Recorder instead of recording - no prompt appears in that case.
Expected behavior

After picking and confirming a folder through the app's own folder picker, tapping the record button should start recording and save into the confirmed folder. If the chosen folder cannot be used, the app should show a concrete storage/permission error explaining why, instead of silently discarding the accepted selection and repeating the first-run confirmation prompt.

Actual behavior

I confirmed the folder prompt, opened the folder picker, selected Download (the breadcrumb read Internal > Download) and pressed OK. Back on the Recorder screen I tapped the record button, and the same prompt appeared again - "You must confirm the folder where you want to save your recordings. Please press OK to continue." - and recording never started, so the folder I picked and confirmed is not actually used.

Additional information

Package: org.fossify.voicerecorder
Version: 1.7.1.

Every time I tap the record button I am asked to confirm the save folder again, so the folder I picked is never really remembered and I cannot record anything.
