Research direction

The issue does not name any files or entry points, so start by reading CONTRIBUTING.md and the earlier multitrack request the issue mentions, which was closed as wontfix. The issue leaves open whether to overdub destructively or add a multitrack system, so the first step is a maintainer decision on that design. Done would mean an agreed approach that a newcomer can then implement.

Feature description

A request for multitracking was wontfixed, but that was over 2 years ago, and since then, audio layering has been added to Apple voice memos. Given that voice memos seems to be a pretty good reference for what staying simple looks like, I think it would be a great and useful addition to this app. Whether this would be via destructively recording on top of the existing memo or, if minds have been changed, via some multitracking system, it would be very nice to have for certain situations while staying completely simple and intuitive.

Why do you want this feature?

I personally like to speak out the melodies in my head when i get ideas while away from my computer and DAW, but there does not seem to be any solution matching the simplicity of Apple's voice memos available if i want to record multiple melodies over each other. The closest thing seems to be fully featured mobile DAWs i have to pay for, which is complete overkill. I can imagine there are other situations in which being able to simply layer audio would be useful as well.
