Description
Running gulp release generates a new VSIX in the project root, but the smoke test resources may still contain an older VSIX.
When the extension version changes, this leaves multiple VSIX files and requires manually replacing the package used by smoke tests.
Additionally, the release task calls its callback before the asynchronous packaging process finishes, so Gulp does not reliably wait for completion.
Expected behavior
The release task should wait for packaging to finish, remove outdated VSIX files, and move the newly generated VSIX into extension.
No VSIX should remain in the project root after a successful release.
Proposed fix
- Return the release Promise so Gulp waits for packaging to complete.
- Remove existing VSIX files from the project root before packaging.
- Remove the outdated VSIX from the smoke test resources.
- Move the newly generated VSIX into the smoke test resources.
- Fail the release task if the expected VSIX was not generated.
