Start by running nice -n 19 make test-bundled-modules and inspect module/Taint-Runtime/t/03_var.t, especially the reported lines 6, 8, 10, and 13. Then trace how Taint::Runtime->import handles imported package variables along this test path. Done means the test no longer aborts with $TAINT undeclared and the bundled-module gate passes.

Reproduction
On master at 5193a5e8ffb5604aefdda91feb39b93f2adefcff, run the bundled-module gate:
nice -n 19 make test-bundled-modules
The full run completed 410 tests with 7 failures. module/Taint-Runtime/t/03_var.t aborts because strict compilation reports $TAINT as undeclared at lines 6, 8, 10, and 13, although the test imports it with Taint::Runtime->import(qw($TAINT taint_enabled)).
This reproduces on the base branch, so it predates PR #1679. Please investigate imported package-variable handling in this path.
