This is an open design question, not a task. Start by finding the metrics extensions added by @FScholPer in the docs-as-code Python code, and check how they read the needpie data they duplicate. Done means a recorded decision on keeping them, with proof-of-concept comparisons of a custom needpie directive and a metrics builder in place of the HTML builder.

Should we keep the metrics extensions as introduced by @FScholPer? Are there alternatives? How realistic are they?
Since the metrics basically encode information which are in needpies, we could use a custom needpie directive? We could use a metrics builder instead of a html builder here? Try POC for both? Any other solutions?
