Start by reading the Markdown rendering entry points and tag handling code to find where HTML tags enter the render flow; the issue does not name specific files or tests. Check how tags with Markdown equivalents could be represented and how other tags could be hidden, then add coverage for both behaviors. Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I've seen a couple markdown files that include HTML tags for formatting, and it would be nice if those could be handled.
Describe the solution you'd like
Obviously a full HTML renderer is out of scope for this project, but (in my opinion) aliasing tags that have markdown equivalents to those equivalents (e.g. <em> and </em> would be aliased to *, <b> and </b> would be aliased to **) and hiding all others would be a good way to handle this issue.
Describe alternatives you've considered
I can't think of any other good ways to handle this issue.
