Research direction

Start with the Alpine main/s6/APKBUILD and main/utmps templates linked in the issue, then inspect the Void package conventions for s6-ipcserver and service integration. Done means the utmps package and its superserver dependency are represented with the required build and runtime setup.

utmps

Description

utmp implementation with the goal of security, part of the s6 supervision suite. Provides support for, e.g, who and w on musl.

There is a demand for the package (https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/issues?q=utmps), but there are logistics issues. Namely, utmps depends on a superserver such as s6-ipcserver.

See https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/blob/3.19-stable/main/s6/APKBUILD for an example s6-ipcserver template, and see https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/tree/3.19-stable/main/utmps for an example utmps template. Note that Alpine uses OpenRC as its service manager.
