Read docs/notebooks/_mvtb_nb_bootstrap.py and compare how it installs the bundled wheel with the old piplite.install behavior described in the issue. Start by checking whether piplite is importable in the JupyterLite kernel, then review docs/lite/wasm_check/check_pyodide_install.mjs to understand what the existing check covers. Done means the bootstrap uses the site's bundled wheel in JupyterLite and still falls back to micropip where piplite is unavailable.

Likely smell, found while testing the same bootstrap in RTB. Worth checking out and fixing.

docs/notebooks/_mvtb_nb_bootstrap.py prefers "the wheel bundled with this JupyterLite site" with Path("/pypi").glob("machinevision_toolbox_python-*.whl"). In a real JupyterLite kernel there is no /pypi folder (checked in Chromium with the same pinned kernel, 0.6.1: Path('/pypi').exists() is False), so that branch never runs and the bootstrap always does micropip.install("machinevision-toolbox-python", deps=False) from PyPI. The site therefore installs the last release, not the wheel built with it, so "Try it Now" does not track main.

The old piplite.install([...]) cells did pick up the bundled wheel, because piplite looks in the site's own package index first (pypi/all.json). Using piplite.install when piplite is importable, and micropip.install otherwise (for example under Node), fixes it.

docs/lite/wasm_check/check_pyodide_install.mjs hides it: it mounts the wheel in Pyodide's filesystem and redirects the pypi/ install, so it tests the new wheel whatever the notebook does. A check that opens a site built with the wheel in a browser and compares a hash of an installed source file with the checkout would catch it. RTB has one in docs/lite/browser_check/ (petercorke/robotics-toolbox-python, in the PR that fixes this there).
