Begin with a global search for public repository usage; completion requires following the deprecation checklist through warnings, the waiting period, and removal, subject to the project deciding to delay or abort.

Tracking issue for the deprecation and removal of Module['ctx']

Module['ctx'] was an undocumented legacy property populated by WebGL
context activation (libwebgl.js, libhtml5_webgl.js) and main-canvas
context creation (Browser.createContext in libbrowser.js). Because
GL.makeContextCurrent unconditionally assigned to the quoted
Module['ctx'] property, Closure Compiler could not dead-strip it,
adding a few bytes to every WebGL build.

The process for deprecating and removing features from emscripten is laid out
in https://github.com/emscripten-core/emscripten/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#deprecating-settings-and-features.

At any point in the process we may decide to delay or abort the deprecation and close this issue.

  • Open an issue (this)
  • Perform global search for usage in public repos
  • Send message to emscripten-discuss
  • Add "deprecation" warning to emcc
  • Wait at least 4 releases or 2 months
  • Remove feature from codebase
