First read the app's registry-plugin architecture and how existing database plugins provide connection setup and metadata, then check the unixODBC APIs mentioned in the issue. Done means users can connect by DSN or connection string, browse metadata, use supported read/write operations, and see which engine-specific features are unavailable.

Problem

An engine with no plugin of its own is unreachable, even when the user already has a working ODBC driver installed for it.

Proposed solution

A registry plugin over unixODBC, built as a static library and published through apple/Libs/:

  • A DSN picker reading odbc.ini, or a full connection string. Homebrew's unixODBC keeps odbc.ini and odbcinst.ini under /opt/homebrew/etc.
  • Metadata through SQLTables, SQLColumns and SQLPrimaryKeys, so the sidebar works without engine-specific SQL.
  • Read and write where the driver reports write support, read-only where it does not.
  • Say clearly in the UI which features are unavailable, since anything depending on engine-specific SQL cannot work here.
