What is missing

Comparing runs on different time windows has an error floor that has nothing to do with the boundary, and it is recorded only in an archived SEP. SEP 21's phase 0a found that wide-window references converge only at first order in the window factor. The term is Kerr-generated content at the band's low-frequency edge, where the spectral collar and the mask are sampled on bins that move with the bin spacing. Figures from that SEP, not re-run:

Neither accuracy.md nor the boundaries guide states this (searched for "band-edge", "mesh term" and "window factor").

Why it matters

Refining a window is how a user tests a window, and the tutorial teaches it. Since fft_size="auto" makes grids differ between neighbouring requests, a user who does this meets a first-order error and may take it for a poor collar. SEP 21 worked around it by extrapolating references in the window's inverse, and comparing with and without temporal absorption at equal window.

To do
  • Add it to accuracy.md and to the boundaries guide's advice on checking a window, saying to compare with and without the temporal collar at the same grid, or to extrapolate as SEP 21 did.
  • Optional, and unchecked: measure whether a collar and mask defined so that the sampled edge does not move with the spacing remove the first-order term. Change nothing without that measurement. A change here would touch every run's numbers, so it is a maintainer's call.
Context

#227 needs to separate its effect from this one. #229 covers the size choice.

Done when

Both pages state it with the SEP's figures and a link, and the docs build. The second box, if taken, posts its measurement here.
