The issue says the first step is to propose land surface variable names consistent with standards, but it does not name files, tests, or an entry point. Read the linked fv3-jedi issue and the repository’s existing naming standards to understand the conventions. Done means the proposed names are agreed and any necessary additions to the standards are identified.

As outlined in this issue the land surface variable names in JEDI need to be cleaned up. We are currently using multiple different names for the same variable, and are also not consistent with the standards. I am planning to get this cleaned up. As discussed with @svahl991 and Francois H at JCSDA the first step is to generate names that are consistent with the standards, and to add to the standards where necessary.
At this point, this issue is just a heads up that @SamanthaPullen and I are working on a list of new variable names. Our plan is to come up with proposed variables names to use as a starting point to make these decisions.
