Research direction

Start with packages/builder-server/src/controllers/themeController.js and trace uploadTheme through the version folder copies, latest/ rebuild, and catch path. Add a test that forces a failure after copying an update version and checks that the installed theme remains unchanged; done when the test passes and failed update uploads leave the prior theme intact.

Description

bug

A theme update upload that fails near the end can leave its new versions installed.

When an upload adds update versions to an installed theme, uploadTheme (themeController.js) copies each new updates/<version>/ folder into the theme and then rebuilds latest/. If a step after the copy fails (the rebuild, or reading the final theme data), the catch removes themeDir only for a new theme, so the copied version folders stay while the response reports a failure. Predates the 2026-10-06 ZIP changes.

Done when: A failed update upload leaves the installed theme as it was, with a test.

Start: themeController.js. Source: 2026-10-06 review of the import checks.
