Research direction

This is a ledger of several independent tooling tasks, not a scoped change. Start by choosing one unchecked line and read its referenced earlier issue (#928, #905, #710, #423, #333, #330, or #310) for the relevant entry points and tests; completion means finishing that task and updating its ledger line.

Debt ledger for tooling: work with no user effect (U0). Tick a line when done; add new lines as comments or edit this list instead of opening issues.

  • worktree-pool.sh lock edge cases: stale-lock takeover, timeouts (was #928) — done in 9c893364f

  • iOS startup-bench script: N cold launches to a median table (was #905) — done in 4dbb22954; --device untested on hardware

  • Share the Xcode compilation cache across worktrees (was #710) — done in 4dbb22954; a fresh worktree at the same commit gets 10/10 hits, 21s vs 68s cold (one earlier 0/10 run didn't reproduce; likely a different Shared.framework)

  • native-test-names rejects ( ) # like Kotlin/Native — done in 4dbb22954

  • Landing queue time: detached device installs, scoped app suite, shared land core (was #972) — done in a5764941a (shuttle2), devtools 867abcd, podcasts 6e3423613

  • Automate more device checks: network delay, gap detection, MediaController app (was #423) — the outside-controller checks RS-46, RS-47 and RS-61 are automated via the :android:testing:media-controller test app (9aa1f0050). Network delay (needs a real server and a throttle) and sub-100 ms gaps (needs #321) stay manual in device-checks.md.

  • A/B the remaining worker token levers (was #333)

  • Prompt-cache misses 1 to 5 min into a turn gap (was #330) — diagnosed: the misses are compactions (50/69); the remaining causes are ToolSearch loads, gaps over 1 h and model switches. token-audit now counts these separately (devtools ed569d4). Not done: dropping --chrome from rc-server, which is the owner's call.

  • Harden emulator checks: notification assertion, transient Playing (was #310) — already done in ccfa0d465 and fead673bf

  • Migrate landing to the devtools land core (land.conf, land-verify; land.sh, land_test.sh, longjob.sh retired) — done in 471fc24db. land.sh's missing verify summary is superseded by land-verify's verify: !! first-failure lines.

  • Migrate deploy to the devtools ship core: .claude/ship.conf plus ship-verify-android/-ios, deploy-play, deploy-testflight (devtools/plans/land-and-ship-core.md)

  • Pool leases record no holder PID, so stale-lease detection is age-only (health check 2026-10-09) — done in 6acab0b67 + e29066bf4: an explicit S2_POOL_HOLDER_PID is recorded, list shows live/dead/unknown, reap frees a dead holder's slot only with no own commits and a clean tree. Needs devtools bin/worker-brief to pass S2_POOL_HOLDER_PID=$$ (edited, uncommitted on devtools main as of 2026-10-11). land.conf pool_dir narrowed to numbered slots in e5beeee55.
