Description

Problem

Requiring GitHub sign-in before using CodeTrial creates an additional barrier for users who only want to try the interview experience. Some users may prefer to practice without creating an account or retaining interview history.

Proposed solution

Introduce a guest mode that allows users to start and complete an interview without signing in with GitHub. Guest sessions should be temporary and should not persist interview reports or history across sessions. GitHub sign-in should remain available for features that require an authenticated account.

Acceptance criteria

  • Users can enter guest mode without completing GitHub OAuth.
  • Guests can complete the supported interview workflow without being redirected to sign in.
  • Guest interview reports and history are not persisted across sessions.
  • Existing GitHub sign-in behavior and authenticated-user features remain unchanged.
  • Guest access respects existing API security, resource limits, and provider-cost controls.
  • Automated tests cover guest access, session cleanup, and access restrictions for authenticated-only features.

Scope clarification

Before implementation, confirm which interview features can safely operate without an authenticated account and whether guest sessions require any temporary server-side state.
