Research direction

Start at tui/panels/settings.go:271, then search the tui/panels package for runHiding and the state flag that gates it. Trace the settings panel’s render and update paths to determine whether the intended behavior is row hiding or stale async update filtering. Done means either the behavior is wired into the appropriate path or the unused mechanism is removed; verify the chosen outcome in the panel.

Description

enhancement good first issue

Problem

The runHiding mechanism referenced in packages/tui/panels/settings.go:271 (also noted in the companion Settings-panel staleness issue in this batch) appears to be intended as a row/section-hiding feature, but it is never actually invoked from anywhere that would cause rows to be hidden, making it fully inert dead functionality.

Impact

Whatever UX benefit runHiding was meant to provide (e.g. hiding settings rows not relevant to the current configuration, or suppressing stale UI during a reload) never actually happens, since nothing calls into it; it is pure dead code that adds confusion for future maintainers about what the panel is actually capable of.

Repro

Search the tui/panels package for call sites of runHiding (or the state flag it's gated on) and confirm no code path ever triggers the hiding behavior it appears designed to provide.

Suggested fix

Either wire runHiding into the actual render/update path so it performs its intended row-hiding (and, per the companion Settings issue, is repurposed to filter stale async updates if that was its real intent), or remove it entirely if the feature is no longer wanted, to avoid dead code misleading future changes.
